the link below is titled "The first vaccine against herpes is developed", and talking about first sucesfull vaccine trial agianst GENITAL herpes (though it works only for women, it is a very PC vaccine ;-). What amazed me was the picture related to this link. However, after certain consideration, and thinking about the way this poor soul probaly got that genital virus on eyelids, I came to the conclusion that practically any part of the body could be called genitalium(a), everything depends on context. People, please excuse the interuption, but I was wondering where Toyman was. He mentioned a few weeks ago that Russians and Serbs were going to get into their tanks and roll up to NATO's headquarters in Belgium. Well, if any of you cross paths with him, would you do me a favor? Ask him if he and his comrads will stop at a McDonalds on the way. If so, ask him to pick me up a Chicken McGrill, one order of Fries, and a Coke. I'll pay him when he gets to NATO. OK James

to play with the computer. Haven't you noticed that he posts during the week and is absent during weekends? This tells me that he uses a computer at work for the Internet browsing. If you want some McDonalds stuff just let me know, I will send it to you :o). I'd rather not wake speeping dogs. Kate. |

USA warns Russians for helping Iran in some lazer high-tech (see below), while at the same time is actively helping to another de-facto nuclear power Israel in developing lazer stuff, not just technology, but weapon. -- Putin Considers Clinton Warning By BARRY SCHWEID AP Diplomatic Writer WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Clinton is urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to shelve plans to sell laser technology to Iran, telling him it could be adapted to a nuclear weapons program, an administration official said Tuesday. The Russian leader took the request seriously, but the follow-up is critical, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Clinton has raised the prospective sale with Putin at least twice -- at an eight-nation economic summit meeting in Japan in July and this month while the two leaders were in New York for the U.N. Millennium Summit -- the official said. The appeal was framed in the context of the campaign the administration undertook in 1993 and accelerated in 1996 to stop the "leakage'' of dangerous technology to Iran. The official told The Associated Press he was convinced Clinton had managed to get Putin focused on the problem. His promise to consider the appeal was reassuring, the official said. Still, Russian experts apparently are not so convinced as Americans that the laser technology could help Iran in what the United States believes is a secret program to acquire nuclear bombs. Iran contends the technology it seeks would be used for peaceful purposes, but U.S. officials are skeptical. Russia, strapped for money, has pursued a lucrative relationship with Iran, often at the cost of roiling Russia's relationship with the United States. A second U.S. official, insisting on anonymity, said the process, atomic vapor laser isotope separation, was internationally recognized as sensitive nuclear technology. The official said the United States would strongly object to transferring this technology to any country whose nuclear activities are suspect. (RUSSO: that I like most, how about Israel?)

As they would have stopped Iran from getting the lasers and dented Russians reputation in Iranian eyes for giving in to US. The Iranians will probably get the technology through the back door sooner or later so I see it as an attempt to make Russia look weak to its allies. Billy. |

Russia has emphasized that it will implement the agreement [with Iran] for the sale of equipment and facilities used in laser technology. Russia's atomic energy minister [Yevgeny Adamov] said that the transfer of technical facilities to Iran would continue on the basis of previous agreements. He said that such transfers [of laser technology] would not be influenced or affected by any [political] pressures. Mr Adamov described Iran as Russia's strategic partner. Cossack History - at the beginner, try this one, Artiom Korchukov is very knowledgeable: http://artiom.home.mindspring.com/cossacks/kazaki.htm I am from Amur Cossacks, unfortunately Artyom is not giving musch about them, but after you read this, I'll give you more about Siberian, Transbaikal, Amur, and Ussuri Cossacks (so called Eastern Cossackhood). For some colourfull pictures, and to learn more about Ural Cossacks, you can use this: http://tribeca.ios.com/~compvent/cossacks.html
Prokariots- people who are followers of a section of former Greek Natioanl Kariotic Party (GKNP), mostly freaking liberals who partioned from the Eukariots party who I think, are "true" ["eu" in Greek] Kariots. The main issue they are different is whether all nations should have an access to nuclear ("karion" in Greek) weapon. Pro-kariots are for total access to the NW, while Eukariots are for limited access for certain nations, particularly proved by a UN organization called Determination of Nuclear Access (DNA). Best regards,

linguistics, actually. When I tell people my dogs name (Ataman, which is the title a Cosak chieftan holds), they usually make the immediate association with the Turkish "Otoman" (as in Otoman Empire). is there, in fact, a direct relationship linguistically? I woudl assume that there may be, particularly given the many years of battle between the two cultures (sometimes we addopt more from our enemies than from our friends). Any thoughts, RUSSO? P.S. molchu, molchu! No smeyatsa tihon'ko mozhno? ochen' ostroumno. :-) |

I think, intially Cossacks (kazak = free horseman) were a mixture of Turkish people susch as Polovtsy/Pechenegs/Chyornye Klobuki whose were serving as border patrolling tribes for Russians Knyazi. Later on, in 15-16 centuries, Slavic people starts arriving v "Volnuju Step'" {Free Steppes} to escape noblemen's slavory, as well as some criminals were also at large; eventually Slavs became the main ethnos of Cossackhood. However, influenec of those Turkish nomade traditions had been huge, so is not suprizingly that "Ataman" came for that pre-historic time, as well as "shashka", "bunchuk", "nogajka", etc. But "nabat" I believe is Novgorod invention, many ushkuniks joins Cossacks after Novgorod "volnitsa" [democracy] was destroyed by Moscow tsars. Molchane- zoloto. See what others we'll reply ;-) RUSSO |
